 王様はぴっかぴかの新しい服が大好きで服を買うことばかりにお金を使っていました。王様の望みはいつもきれいな服を着て、みんなにいいなぁと言われることです。ある日、布織り職人と偽る二人組の詐欺師が町にやって来ます。その二人組は不思議な布地を使って「自分にふさわしくない仕事をしている人と、バカな人には透明で見えない」服を織ることができるといいます。さっそく王様は二人組に服を作るように命じます。そして完成した服を見て王様はうろたえます。王様には服が見えませんでした。王様は家来の手前、見えないとは言えず、そのまま行進パレードに臨むことになります。家来も見物人もバカと思われてはいけないと思い、みな同じように衣装を称えます。しかし、行進パレードを見ていた一人の小さな子どもが叫びます。「王様は、はだかだよ!」(C)Pan Rolling(C)Pan Rolling Fairy Tales, Folk Tales & Myths Literature & Fiction
