フェアネス（公平・公正）とは何でしょうか。中央と地方、老人と若者、富裕層と貧困層。今の日本ではさまざまなところで不公平感が高まっています。しかしそもそも社会がどうなれば「公平・公正である」と言えるのか？ と考えると、一筋縄ではいかないように感じます。 ちょっと武者震いするようなよい質問であります。 フェアネスとは何か。 たしかに僕はこれまでこの言葉を頻繁(ひん ぱん)に使ってきていながら、その定義を「自明」のことだと思って、改めて吟味したことがありませんでした。ご質問をいただいたことを奇貨として、この語の意味について考えてみたいと思います。 ある語の定義をするときのやり方は記号論的には定型があります。「それが何でないか」から詰めてゆくのです。 フェア（fair）の反対語は何でしょう。よく使われるのはunfairです。でも、これは「フェアじゃない」ですから、何も言っていないのと同じ。 僕の見るところ、一番印象的な反対語はfoulです。（本文より） 内田樹＆平川克美のメルマガ「大人の条件」はこちらから→http://yakan-hiko.com/uchida.html
