弘美さんという女性の体験。
彼女が中学校二年生の秋の事、学校帰りの通学路は周りが畑や田んぼばかりの田舎道。
明るいうちこそ開けてのどかな景色だが、夕暮れ時一緒に帰る友人もいないときなどは、どこか寂しく心細い。
更にはしばらく行ったある区画は、田んぼをぐるり囲むように防風林のような木立があって、
そのわきを通るとすぐ横にある林の奥の静けさが何とも言えない怖いような気持ちを誘う。
いつ通ってもなれないその木立の横にさしかかったとき「オンギャー！」と
赤ちゃんの泣き声がすぐそばの大きな木の根元から響く。
弘美さんは思わず立ちすくんだ。
