About this listen
A House for Mr. Biswas, by Nobel and Booker Prize-winning author V. S. Naipaul, is a powerful novel about one man's struggle for identity and belonging. Born into poverty, then trapped in the shackles of charity and gratitude, Mr. Biswas longs for a house he can call his own. He loathes his wife and her wealthy family, upon whom he is dependent. Finding himself a mere accessory on their estate, his constant rebellion is motivated by the one thing that can symbolize his independence. The book is striking in its lush and sensual descriptions of Trinidad and was listed as one of Time magazine's 100 Best English-Language Novels from 1923 to 2005.

The perennial House arrest
the story though from pre World war 2 is still contemporary as far as the middle class aspirations for own house are concerned.

Sam Dastor's voice kept me going!
Had it not been for the narration, I wouldn't have ever finished this painfully stretched novel about a flawed protagonist's search for a place he calls home. Sam Dastor brings it alive. From the intonations to the accents, he gives life to this lengthy plotless narrative about Mohun Biswas's struggles. As for Naipaul, his genius is most visible in passages where he evokes the reader's sympathy for a whiny, difficult protagonist like Biswas.

descriptive nonsense!
it's highly descriptive, but nonsense. I couldn't endure it. I exercised my right to ditch it in the 4th chapter. Obama must have seen something in this to recommend it..
