Featuring an exclusive Q&A between Anthony Horowitz and Adam Hamdy.

I couldn't see the sea from my bedroom, but I could hear the waves breaking in the distance. They reminded me that I was on a tiny island. And I was trapped.

There has never been a murder on Alderney.

It's a tiny island, just three miles long and a mile and a half wide. The perfect location for a brand-new literary festival. Private investigator Daniel Hawthorne has been invited to talk about his new book. The writer, Anthony Horowitz, travels with him.

Very soon they discover that not all is as it should be. Alderney is in turmoil over a planned power line that will cut through it, desecrating a war cemetery and turning neighbour against neighbour.

The visiting authors - including a blind medium, a French performance poet and a celebrity chef - seem to be harbouring any number of unpleasant secrets.

When the festival's wealthy sponsor is found brutally killed, Alderney goes into lockdown and Hawthorne knows that he doesn't have to look too far for suspects.

There's no escape. The killer is still on the island. And there's about to be a second death....

Amazing!

I am a big of of the narrator - Rory Kinnear. watta performance! Anthony Horowitz series will not be the same with this person.

The book is very well written, I was eagerly waiting for it to release. I would say a bit less Hawthorne through out. this many be because I am used to previous books (12+ hours/book).

I will be overwhelmed if there are more books of Aticus Pund where there is a book within a book!

More like Time to Kill!!

I have enjoyed Anthony Horowitz's other works for the most part; however, he missed the mark with this one. I have two main problems with this book: -

1. The author takes too long to come to the main mystery of the novel. Most of the first act is spent just giving the background about the island and Hawthorne and Tony's relationship. Even after the first murder takes place, the story is not entirely focused on its central mystery and dawdles way too much.

2. The final reveal and the motivation of the murderer feels less like a well thought-out novel and more like a weekly detective procedural broadcast on cable TV. The final chapter wraps up the book way too hurriedly and consequently, the conclusion feels unsatisfying.

From an audiobook standpoint, the quality of the book is top-notch. Rory Kinnear is an excellent narrator and the quality of his performance and clarity of the book are outstanding.
