About this listen

Costa Award winner and Guardian Prize winning author Patrick Ness delivers an extraordinarily moving novel about coming to terms with loss.

The monster showed up after midnight. As they do. But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming.... This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

Critic Reviews

" A Monster Calls fuses the painful and insightful, the simple and profound. The result trembles with life." ( The Indpendent)
"Exceptional.... This is storytelling as it should be - harrowing, lyrical and transcendent." ( The Guardian)

A good story made incredible

Let me get this straight. the story itself is good. Patrick Ness writes powerful moments with a brilliant concept. to those jaded among us we can see the end coming. but that is not a bad thing is it.
the reason this 4 star book gets the 5 is due to Jason Isaacs incredible narration. His voice has a power that few in the world can emulate and it's a absolute pleasure hearing him.

Get this if you want a chilling tale of existential dread. get this if you want a phenomenal narrator flexing his muscles. get this tale.
