About this listen
It is known that Ahalya was cursed by her husband, Gautam, for indulging in a physical relationship with Indra. But is there another story to Ahalya's truth? Who was Indra anyway? A king? A lover? A philanderer? The first book of the Sati series, Ahalya hinges on these core questions, narrating the course of her life, from innocence to infidelity.
In the Sati series, Koral Dasgupta explores the lives of the Pancha Kanyas from Indian mythology, all of whom had partners other than their husbands and yet are revered as the most enlightened women, whose purity of mind precedes over the purity of body. The five books of the Sati series reinvent these women and their men, in the modern context with a feminist consciousness.

Poetic, and Interpretative
A beautiful and poetic narration of the story of Ahalya... One in which (unknowingly) she explores her sensuality with Indra in the guise of her husband, a husband who fails because of his withdrawal from his physicality, to be a husband to his wife.
The author makes no judgements, but leaves the interpretation of this story to the reader... This story though mythological, has been woven with such dexterity by the author, that it shines a light on the perceptions of what a woman is entitled to in the context of the modern world as well...

I wouldn't call it retelling...it is true telling
I love how the author portrayed the characters bonding between each other and themselves. The feelings which we feel so humane (irrelevant) and yet so intertwined and necessary.
I was unable to understand few concepts here and there, wish they were more elaborated.
But overall, this is the best and unexpected underlying part of the great epic.
