About this listen

He only looked away for a second.

Still haunted by the disappearance of his little sister, Amy, over 20 years ago, Joseph Bridgeman’s life has fallen apart. When a friend talks him into seeing hypnotherapist Alexia Finch to help with his insomnia, Joseph accidentally discovers he can time travel. His first trip only takes him back a few minutes, but his new-found ability gives him something he hasn’t felt for the longest time: hope.

Joseph sets out to travel back to the night Amy went missing and save her. But after several failed attempts, he discovers the farther back he travels, the less time he gets to stay there. And the clock is ticking.

With the help of Alexia, Joseph embarks on a desperate race against the past to save his sister. Can he master his new skill and solve the mystery of Amy’s disappearance before it’s too late?

Previously released as The Unexpected Gift of Joseph Bridgeman, this updated version includes extra chapters, new plotlines, and even deeper character development. It makes way for an expanded vision of the Joseph Bridgeman Series, with the first four books released in 2021 and 2022.

What a concept - and the twist!

The idea, the journey, and the end! What a thought. And so well executed - so gripping!

Amazing story. One of the best time travel series

Amazing story. One of the best time travel series listened in a while. I listened to lot of time travel audio books in recent months as I am obsessed with it. This seems much more relatable story I heard compared to previous dozens.

A brilliant premise well delivered upon

I heard Project Hail Mary by Ray Porter, and became a fan of his narration. Tried finding other books he has narrated, and that is how I discovered this book.

A brother who travels back in time to try and save his sister - how can one pass on this premise? The book delivered with its plot - straightforward, simple, no unnecessary details which can often result in a drag. This book got me out of a long reading slump, and I'm now looking for more from Nick Jones and Ray Porter.

Excellent

Enjoyed this amazing book. Full of excitement till the end. Often don’t pick up such books but this was a treat. Just that the little girl’s voice should be narrated by a little girl. That would make the narration better.

Better than expected!

Time travel books are great when done right, & this one gets close. Enjoyable read, at times funny. Definitely room to be better but recommended.

Breath of fresh air

The compelling story and impeccable writing style drew me into a world far more vivid and believable than the book name or cover advocates. The title suggests a storyline centered around a rom-com or a tale of heartbreak, but it wasn’t that at all (Thank God).
The story unfolds neatly before us, and as it does, I found myself completely absorbed, both mentally and emotionally. The protagonist's quest to uncover what happened is so unique that each time he embarked on a journey, I was fully immersed in the richly detailed, realistic world Author Nick Jones crafted.
At the beginning of the book, we start to pity the character for what he’s going through. The level of pain he endures resonated with me on a deeper level, making his quest to find out what happened to his sister all the more intense for me. I was completely captivated by his desperate search, feeling every moment of tension and urgency along the way.
I can't say much more without revealing too much, but I loved the ending of the book. Instead of Newton's third law, the ending conveys that every action has its own sub-action and reaction, which one can never escape from. You'll only understand this after reading the book. I would’ve loved more pages detailing the protagonist's friendships and relationships. This book, along with others in the series, could easily be adapted into a TV series with limited seasons.

Shivani’s opinion

Well I totally enjoyed it . It was just like a quick read, but with a lot of twists and turns, it also makes you hooked up to the story line throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.
