About this listen

It's not so easy being Rosemary Goode and tipping the scales at almost 200 pounds - especially when your mother runs the most successful (and gossipiest!) beauty shop in town. After a spectacularly disastrous Christmas break when the scale reaches an all-time high, Rosemary realizes that things need to change. (A certain basketball player, Kyle Cox, might have something to do with it.)

So begins a powerful year of transformation and a journey toward self-discovery that surprisingly has little to do with the physical and more to do with an honest look at how Rosemary feels about herself.

A smart, pretty girl of fifteen

Rosemary Goode was a smart, pretty girl of fifteen, with a tidy, dumpy figure, a round face and bright, blooming cheeks. She was fond of books and spent the chief of her time in reading. The Blue Birds - those silly young lumps of conceit - called her Artichoke to disrespect her! At her mother's insistence, Rosemary visited and listened with deference to the counsellor Mrs.Wallace in whose superior judgement she had confidence.
She fell in love with Kyle Cox, the school basketball player who had curly hair, and merry brown eyes. She was surprised to see that Kyle strove unceasingly to obtain her esteem and friendship so that he could return her love. She had a big heart and a sense of empathy he hadn’t come across too often.
Kaykay was one of the popular girls (Blue Birds) and Rosemary was grateful she’d decided to take her under her wing. Kaykay had Attention Deficit Disorder. She persuaded Rosemary to run like her every morning. Rosemary charged her legs faster, and sprinted longer than ever before. She lost some weight and felt great. She lost some more it was awesome! The harder she worked, the more she lost. The better she felt, the harder she worked.
Her mother and grandma were so proud. On her 16th birthday, her mom gave her diamond stud earrings that she loved for their clarity and class.
