About this listen

From the New York Times and internationally best-selling authors of The Illuminae Files comes a new science fiction epic....

It's 2380, and the graduating students of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Tyler Jones has been a star pupil who hopes to recruit the squad of his dreams but ends up with a mixed and volatile crew.

And Ty's squad isn't even his biggest problem - that'd be Aurora Jie-Lin O'Malley, the girl he's just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler's squad of losers, discipline cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

Vividly told in the seven voices of the team members, this is fast-paced, action-packed, wickedly humorous and fabulously entertaining.

OH MAKER!

Right from the start, it was no struggle at all for me to simply dive into this amazing world. With perfect world-building and characters, each with their own back story, I became a part of Squad 312, and now In off to find the Weapon. Onwards and onto Aurora Burning.

Not quite my vibe

The lowest rating I considered for this book was 2.9 stars out of 5 and highest was 3.6/5 so I guess I’ll be rating this 3.3/5 ultimately.

I have to admit that it was partly my fault why my read/listening experience was.. not the best. This audiobook required way more attention than what I usually gave while listening so I feel like I started off on the wrong foot. I definitely missed some serious bits here and there, while my attention was diverted because towards the end I was like “huh?? What’s happening? Why??”

I am probably in the minority with my opinion because I just did not fully connect with any of the characters. I liked some more than others but I don’t think it’s enough for me to want to continue the series. At least, not right now when I have several other books waiting for me.

I found the romance to be nothing new, and it quite irked me to be honest. I don’t think sci-fi books are quite my vibe after this book.
