About this listen

Continuing where Thus Spoke Zarathustra left off, Nietzsche's controversial work Beyond Good and Evil is one of the most influential philosophical texts of the 19th century and one of the most controversial works of ideology ever written.

Attacking the notion of morality as nothing more than institutionalised weakness, Nietzsche criticises past philosophers for their unquestioning acceptance of moral precepts. Nietzsche tried to formulate what he called "the philosophy of the future".

Alex Jennings reads this new translation by Ian Johnston.

Revolutionary when written & even now & for future

Great original thoughts. Though a little complicated; needs re-reading & ponder at length, nevertheless opens your eyes & mind. Writing has a sharpness & dramatizing humor attached to it, narrated in a style suitable for such work as well as the writer. Enjoyed. Recommended to thinkers and open minded people, who want to strengthen their will, to understand the strength of independent thinking & the power it gives to the person whose ability to question the myths & established notions gets sharpened & ignited when they try to imbibe themselves into the original discourses of such leaders of philosophy.

Great ideas but dense

Great ideas expressed in a non-reader friendly way. Had to listen to the same parts again and again to grasp the meaning behind the words. Either the narration or the translation was not done in a way that helps the reader understand it in one go. The subject isn't very complicated, the way it is written or the way it is read is not conducive to understanding.
