Publisher's Summary

It is said that Kunti fulfilled her desires and ambitions through her sons, the Pandavas, resulting in the bloodbath in Kurukshetra. And once the truth struck her she sought help from Krishna to get rid of her guilt. Krishna became Kunti’s moral guardian, a conversation began, from which emerged fascinating tales of women in mythology.

In this brilliant retelling, Kunti is placed at the central of the novel and running parallel to her universe are the stories of Aditi and Diti, the primordial mothers, the rebellious Soorpanakha, the independent Sanjana and Tara, trendsetters such as Anusuya, intrigues of Kaikeyee and Kaikasi, the helpless Gandhari, the self-sacrificing Devaki’s and the selfless Yashoda. These are the stories of resolve, exploits, revenge, sacrifice and affection - taken together they give us a deeper understanding of the legendary women in India.

Not upto expectations

Well I had lot of hopes for this book but I was very disappointed. This book is actually nothing but several mythological stories just mashed together. Nothing new or unexpected event takes place. For someone like me who know 98% stories I haven't gained much.

Yes this book will be interesting to those who doesn't know many mythological stories and wish to read them but that's it you just get to know the stories.

The plot of this book is that after the Mahabharata war Kunti hurt by Pandavas behaviour towards old Dhritarastra and Gandhari and guilt stricken asks Krishna for advice and he tells her stories of various mothers in mythology throughout various times.

Here the theme being Mothers but it shifted to other things more, continuously. The stories of Mothers seemed more like an excuse to fit in the tales. The author in trying to portray the independence and ambitions of the women just showed their succumb to lust and other worldly desires. An independent or strong willed woman doesn't mean that she has to indulge in infidelity or leave her duties towards her family.

Also as per the title boons and curses it is insignificant in many stories and in some case missing.

Another disappointing part was that some stories were manipulated just to forcibly fit the theme.

Wouldn't reccomend to anyone personally but if you want to read for the sake of the stories you can.
