About this listen

Now on Netflix as The Call to Courage

Every time we are introduced to someone new, try to be creative, or start a difficult conversation, we take a risk. We feel uncertain and exposed. We feel vulnerable. Most of us try to fight those feelings - we strive to appear perfect.

In a powerful new vision Dr Brené Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability, and dispels the widely accepted myth that it's a weakness. She argues that, in truth, vulnerability is strength and when we shut ourselves off from vulnerability - fromrevealing our true selves - we distance ourselves from the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives.

Daring Greatly is the culmination of 12 years of groundbreaking social research, across every area of our lives including home, relationships, work, and parenting. It is an invitation to be courageous; to show up and let ourselves be seen, even when there are no guarantees.

This is vulnerability. This is daring greatly.

Life changing

To say that the book is extremely well researched would be an understatement. It is written beautifully and has references to the authors own life which makes it so much more authentic and relatable. This has truly made me question so many beliefs that I had grown up with, the pursuit of perfection, discarding vulnerability as a weakness that we must all avoid at all times, mistaking guilt for shame most of the times....I could just go on and on. I remember reading Lean In, another great book nonetheless, and wondering how do I get to be fearless...how do I answer the question what would I do if were not afraid....because what if you fail, because what if the consequences are too adverse...how can you not be afraid? I got my answer in this book, "what is worth doing even if I fail?" Full marks to Brene Brown for her narration too. Highly recommend!

An eye opener

Just as much as the title of this book gives away, Brene Brown has always came up with immense eye openers one can never imagine that could've existed. I've always seen or infact tagged Vulnerability with Fear/Shame, as a matter of fact. My definition of Vulnerability was limited to my ideas and beliefs, until Brene Brown opened my eyes.

That one thing I learned from this book is that Vulnerability isn't a product of Fear or Shame but it's vice versa. And, it's not just it, you sometimes are more vulnerable in the moments of happiness than you could be in moments of fear!

Whoaaa!! This revelation is going to be the game changer of my life. Giving more credits to how we feel when are encountered with these emotions exposes us to vulnerability, but it is not something that will put us down.

BEING VULNERABLE IS BEING THE MOST SYMBOLIC FORM OF BEING COURAGEOUS!

Ever saw that coming? I didn't!

And thus, I loved how beautifully Brene Brown has correlated everything life throws at us to how vulnerable we become when faced wit it!

A self help book that considers each of us humans

Thank you for a self help book that accounts for more nurturing approaches. For showing that men can learn vulnerability too. For a humble way of daring greatly. It's perspective is so different, wholesome and helpful than many other self help books based on white male ideologies like bulldoze through problems. The mention of the troubles in the Viking or Victim mentality was my favourite take away among many others.

This was my first Brene Brown book after my wife's recommendation. It's surely not the last.
