In this sequel to his first mystery starring police detective Steve Nastos, Cain puts his disgraced hero on the trail of a missing teenage girl.
Bob Dunsworth adds more tension to the taut story with a voice that he self-describes as "dangerously debonair". He has performed as a narrator for documentaries and commercials, but he finds his calling in suspense. He can even make a day of the week sound ominous.
