The Great Courses
About this listen
"It doesn't take an Einstein to understand modern physics," says Professor Wolfson at the outset of these twenty-four lectures on what may be the most important subjects in the universe: relativity and quantum physics. Both have reputations for complexity. But the basic ideas behind them are, in fact, simple and comprehensible by anyone. These dynamic and illuminating lectures begin with a brief overview of theories of physical reality starting with Aristotle and culminating in Newtonian or "classical" physics. After that, you'll follow along as Professor Wolfson outlines the logic that led to Einstein's profound theory of special relativity and the simple yet far-reaching insight on which it rests. With that insight in mind, you'll move on to consider Einstein's theory of general relativity and its interpretation of gravitation in terms of the curvature of space and time.
From there, you'll embark on a dazzling exploration of how inquiry into matter at the atomic and subatomic scales led to quandaries that are resolved-or at least clarified-by quantum mechanics, a vision of physical reality so profound and so at odds with our experience that it nearly defies language.
By bringing relativity and quantum mechanics into the same picture, you'll chart the development of fascinating hypotheses about the origin, development, and possible futures of the entire universe, as well as the possibility that physics can produce a "theory of everything" to account for all aspects of the physical world. But the goal throughout these lectures remains the same: to present the key ideas of modern physics in a way that makes them clear to the interested layperson.

Great intro to relativity and quantum mechanics
Professor Wolfson describes very elegantly the physics behind the large and small and that too without much mathematics. This is absolute must for people who are interested in physics but don’t have the mathematical background for higher level studies. In short highly recommended.

Great narration without mathematical complexity
Wish we were introduced to physics through the story mode of narration used here rather than directly jumping into formulas in our textbooks

awesome book
I just loved it. the flow was awesome. clarified so many things in the entire gamut of things - microscopic level & cosmic level. Topics like gravity, time dilation were so interesting and thought provoking. the narration was superb. I listened to it at 1.25x level and it was perfect

What a remarkable book!
First thing first, this audio book covers entire physics from Newton to particle accelerators in a manner I have never heard or seen before.
The author's unique way of presenting any concept in a very simple way with an emphasis on not just theory but the story that led to such discoveries is really inspiring.
Each concept leads on gradually to the next concept building on each other.
This book is perfect for people who do not have a formal education in physics but nevertheless wants to explore it in an accurate and professional way.
Do not hesitate. Go for it!!

Awesome story telling
Excellent narration. Just a right level of explanation for non scientists. Challenges in following visual diagrams on audio though

Amazing
Loved it. The narration was very good. I am an engineer of electronics and this course has motivated me to delve deeper into. The book and narration was engaging and probably this is the fastest I finished a book.

Well explained with difficulty
The entire subject is quite well explained and divided into very apt sub-topics, however the accompanying PDF didn’t have the same images of which the speaker spoke which made it difficult at times to visualise what the author wished to show…… despite this the author does a great job of explaining things well enough so that the missing images are only slight issues and not critical….
