About this listen
Ponniyin Selvan is Kalki’s magnum opus based in the 10th century and presents the early life of Rajaraja and the kings of Chozha Empire. Though written more than 60 years ago, this saga is timeless, reeling the listeners in its gripping plot which is interwoven with intrigue, conspiracies, and romance. Fresh Floods is the first part of the five-part Ponniyin Selvan.
Who is the rightful heir to the throne? Will Madhuranthakar—In this fascinating historic fiction based on real characters and incidents, the story unfolds at a spell-binding pace, delving deep into human tendencies, desires, personal motives, political ambitions, and the fight to gain power at all costs.
And will justice prevail in this struggle for power? son of the eldest son—or Aditha—the grandson of the younger—wear the crown?

simply amazing
The translation of the books from Tamil to English is outstanding and the voice actor does an awesome job in bringing life to the various characters. You must listen to all 5 books.

Good narration
Nearly 50 years before GRRM wrote A Game of Thrones, an equally wonderful and thrilling work spawned from the pen of a tamizh freedom fighter and journalist Kalki Krishnamurthy.
Ponniyin Selvan is an epic based on the vibrant Chozha empire's reign. It is a thrilling saga of espionage, fight for succession, betrayal, treachery and most importantly, love.
I wish I knew to how read and understand Tamizh to savour this epic in it's original form but the translation done by Pavithra Srinivasan is impeccable. The way she has translated the beauty of Chozha Nadu transports you to the magical era of Chozha reign which only makes me regretful of not knowing Tamizh to enjoy the nuances of Kalki's writing.
Kalki has not composed this epic as a drab historical thesis. He takes the reader with him to all the places he has described. He takes the readers by their hands and puts them in the middle of the scene.
Fortunately there are 4 more volumes left in this series, and I am extremely intrigued to know the fate of the characters that I have fallen in love with.

highly recommended
As I'm still learning Tamil, this audiobook enabled me to experience Ponniyin Selvan in a way that I previously couldn't. The translation and narration were on point and really enjoyable. I'm so glad this exists on Audible. Looking forward to the other parts of this series.
