About this listen

The number-one New York Times best-selling author of Airport reveals the inner workings of a New Orleans hotel - and the human drama unfolding behind its closed doors.

During five sultry days, the lives of the guests, the management, and the workers at New Orleans's largest and most elite hotel converge. The owner has four days to raise the money to save his financially ailing property. The general manager, once blacklisted from the hospitality business, struggles with one crisis after another. A rebellious heiress will do anything to attain her secret desires. The duke and the duchess in the lavish presidential suite are covering up a crime. And within one of the many guest rooms hides a professional thief.

Filled with memorable characters and authentic detail about the inner machinery and secrets of a five-star hotel, this gripping New York Times best seller sold millions of copies and was adapted for both film and TV. Set in a time when travel was still glamorous and grand independent hotels set the standard for luxury, it's like a vacation in itself, from the author of such behind-the-scenes blockbusters as The Moneychangers and Wheels.

Hooked.

I was a bit hesitant at first because I rarely pick up longer duration books, but as I started listening, the story had me hooked.
The narration was very well done. Not the best I have seen, but great nonetheless.
Overall I had a fun time listening to this book. Would recommend 10/10.

Hotel industry

It was a book that I could have stopped listening in between and I wouldn't have been sorry about it. I thought it wasn't a novel but a description on how to run a hotel business. I still heard it and it was certainly better after the audio book chapter 20.
One things for sure if I want to run a Hotel I will listen to this novel again because the author has done justice to that at least

Good story

The narration was flat and unimaginative. I’d have expected better narration. Also some bits of the story was unnecessary.

Engaging n Entertaining

Keeps you involved. Detailed , seems like a hotel insider is talking. Story with multiple sub plots, twists and turns keeps it overall entertaining. Light read / listen. Nice narration as well. I'm picking up another one from Huxley next.

Brilliant detailing of hotel functionality

Amazing deep dive into the hotel functioning. Absolutely brings the entire hotel alive with its endearing personalities like Peter, Christine, Marsha, Dodo, Key Case. Also, good layers of problems - Hit & Run case, Racism, Change of hotel ownership, personal relationships, hotel theft, kitchen profitability, hotel misuse and many more. Definitely recommend this for anyone who wishes to get a glimpse of this industry. Can't wait to get my hands on another one of Arthur Hailey's books.

Brilliant audible experience too.
