About this listen
“Fascinating... A thought-provoking journey into emotion science.” - Wall Street Journal
“A singular book, remarkable for the freshness of its ideas and the boldness and clarity with which they are presented.” - Scientific American
“A brilliant and original book on the science of emotion, by the deepest thinker about this topic since Darwin.” - Daniel Gilbert, best-selling author of Stumbling on Happiness
The science of emotion is in the midst of a revolution on par with the discovery of relativity in physics and natural selection in biology. Leading the charge is psychologist and neuroscientist Lisa Feldman Barrett, whose research overturns the long-standing belief that emotions are automatic, universal, and hardwired in different brain regions. Instead, Barrett shows, we construct each instance of emotion through a unique interplay of brain, body, and culture. A lucid report from the cutting edge of emotion science, How Emotions Are Made reveals the profound real-world consequences of this breakthrough for everything from neuroscience and medicine to the legal system and even national security, laying bare the immense implications of our latest and most intimate scientific revolution.
“Mind-blowing.” - Elle
“Chock-full of startling, science-backed findings... An entertaining and engaging read.” - Forbes

radical and mind boggling
Don't wanna term it as a self-help book but it serves that purpose as a positive side effect... though it doesn't claim to talk about consciousness but it surely does in a best possible way , everyone should read it. I would read it again. In the right way to say ..my brain is able to construct an instance of awe as I read it,and it makes me skeptical in my experience of reality ,as I regretfully know it's the model my brain creates as per my survival needs.. it's backed by so many scientific studies and explaination.. this book can be be guide to mindfulness or to a lawmaker, it can be a guide to live

highly original indeed - fresh insights
you will evolve by listening to this book; classical view has misled an entire generation " some chapters require relistening to put some key ideas to practice although it is not a self help book

Interesting take
I am Inspired by the concept of scepticism about the older theories of emotion and another view to explain the observed behavior as presented in the book. Loved the narration.

Good content, dry narration, could be 40% shorter
The author has spent a disproportionate amount of time rebuking the classical view of emotions. After a point of time, the view seems like a vengeful rant rather than, good story telling.
Having said that, she dissects the foundations dog emotions quite well. I learned quite a few concepts that were well explained.

inhales...
The narrators loud inhale before each and every sentence kills the expereince. Very distracting for what otherwise seems like an interesting book.
