About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Two women. Twenty years of secrets. And a man who doesn't remember anything.
Or does he?
Everyone has secrets. What if you can't remember yours?
'How long have you been sitting out here?'
'I got here yesterday.'
'Where did you come from?'
'I have no idea.'
Lily has only been married for three weeks. When her new husband fails to come home from work one night, she is left stranded in a new country where she knows no one.
Alice finds a man on the beach outside her house. He has no name, no jacket, no idea what he is doing there. Against her better judgement, she invites him into her home.
But who is he, and how can she trust a man who has lost his memory?

The description about the small town was very idyllic.
I had high hopes going into I Found You by Lisa Jewell, but I found myself struggling to stay engaged. The premise of three parallel stories, two of which are set in different timelines, seemed promising at first. I thought this would create a rich tapestry of mystery and intrigue, but instead, it felt like a slow burn that didn’t pay off.
Pros:
The idea of intertwining narratives is a solid concept, and Lisa Jewell does manage to tie them together by the end.
Jewell’s writing is easy to read, and she has a way of keeping you just curious enough to see how everything connects.
Cons:
The biggest issue for me was the characters. It was difficult to identify with any of them or even feel sympathy for their decisions. Everyone seemed overly careless and made choices that felt irrational or downright reckless. I couldn’t root for anyone, which made it hard to care about what happened.
The pacing was off. Despite the promise of a mystery, the story dragged, and I found myself bored more often than I’d like. The slow build didn't create suspense; it just made me impatient.
Even though the three-story structure should have added depth, it felt disjointed at times, and I didn’t get as invested in the mystery as I hoped.
In the end, I Found You felt overhyped. It’s not a bad book, but it’s definitely one you could miss without regret. If you’re between books and have nothing else on your shelf, it’s an okay read. Otherwise, I’d suggest looking for something else.
