About this listen

At a remote ice station in Antarctica, a team of U.S. scientists has made an amazing discovery. They have found something buried deep within a 100-million-year-old layer of ice. Something made of metal. Led by enigmatic Lieutenant Shane Schofield, a team of crack United States Marines is sent to the station to secure this discovery for their country. They are a tight unit, tough and fearless. They would follow their leader into hell. They just did...©2002 Matthew Reilly (P)2002 Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd. Literature & Fiction Suspense

Critic Reviews

"Some of the wildest and most sustained battles in an action thriller in a long time...non-stop action, lots of explosions--and a little bit of conspiracy." ( Chicago Tribune)

Enjoyed it just fine. However,....

The book is enjoyable, narration is crisp. Character as well as story build-up is progressive and clear. I liked the story-within-story approach. Empathy towards the protagonist(s) is also built up quite well. No loose ends that I could detect.

However, lacked the wit and balance in pace I expect from skillful storytelling. Non-stop blinding action (which require less thinking and more following) rendered it difficult for me to keep up sometimes, as I like to listen to my books hours on end. Impossible scenarios are brought to life, which make me lose interest more often during the listen than I would like.

All in all, a different but interesting read and I liked it. Will definitely try out the other books from the series. My thanks to Matthew, Sean and Audible.
