About this listen
Yeonmi Park was not dreaming of freedom when she escaped from North Korea. She didn't even know what it meant to be free. All she knew was that she was running for her life, that if she and her family stayed behind they would die - from starvation or disease or even execution.
This book is the story of Park's struggle to survive in the darkest, most repressive country on Earth; her harrowing escape to South Korea through China's underworld of smugglers and human traffickers; and her emergence as a leading human rights activist - all before her 21st birthday.

Emotional and Captivating Journey of a 21 year gir
The memoir is an emotional and Captivating story. It is an exceptional brave journey of a family who wanted nothing but freedom. The story is very inspirational and heart touching. Many a times I felt that how lucky we are to have freedom in every aspect of life. At the age of 21 the life has thrown many challenges to the girl that even so called succesful leaders from the free world can never have imagined in their wildest dreams.
I sincerely hope that Yeonmi Park will go back free North Korea to fulfil his father's wish.
I pray to the benevolent creator that Both Korean people get their freedom back.

Very moving and a must hear story for people
living in this hyper narcissistic era of the human race.
The biography is very real and sometimes I couldn't believe it was not a made up story.
Very proud of this young woman and at the end of the book she really does a great job of explaining things very well for e.g. the reasons to write this book and tying up loose ends.
You feel a sense of completion and as if you took the journey with Yeon-mi.
I am grateful I was able to listen to this and will likely buy a hardcover book to remember and share .

Very engaging
I started this book because I was so intrigued by Yeonmi Park's interviews on social media. I got engrossed in this book and was listening to it every free minute I got. It is a very important story and must be heard by everyone. Her ability to absorb what has happened to her and be able to articulate it with clarity of thought and an unadorned honesty won me over. I have the utmost respect for her and her family's strength. The horrors that women and the men of N. Korea have endured and continue to endure, made me so uncomfortable and broke my heart several times throughout the book, these atrocities should no longer be hidden and covered up. A must read.

A story of courage and determination
It's really an incredible story. A must read, a story of courage and determination. Narrator was also good. This story opens my mind that there is so much in this world and in our life, we should be thankful for. More power to Yeonmi.
