玉子焼きは、弁当のおかずや日本旅館の朝食などでもおなじみ。寿司ネタとしても欠かせず、築地場外市場には行列のできる専門店もあるほどです。
高度経済成長を迎えていた1960年代の日本には、国民の好みを示すものとして「巨人、大鵬、玉子焼き」という言葉がありました。
巨人とはプロ野球の常勝球団のことで、大鵬は当時、最多優勝回数の記録を作った大相撲の横綱。これらと一緒に、特に子どもたちの間では、玉子焼きが大人気だったのです。
玉子焼きの一種で、溶き卵にだしを混ぜて作るだし巻き卵もあり、これも居酒屋などの定番メニューです。©2017 KODANSHA
