About this listen

Kunti, a rare matriarch in the Mahabharata and one of the revered Pancha Satis, holds an unforgettable position in the Indian literary imagination. Yet, little is known about the fateful events that shaped her early life.

Taking on the intricate task, Koral Dasgupta unravels the lesser-known strands of Kunti’s story: through a childhood of scholarly pursuits to unwanted motherhood at adolescence, a detached marriage and her ambitious love for the king of the devas.

After the remarkable success of Ahalya, the first book in the Sati series, Kunti presents a brilliant and tender retelling of a story at the heart of our culture and mythology.

In the Sati series, Koral Dasgupta explores the lives of the Pancha Kanyas from Indian mythology and reinvents them in the modern context with a feminist consciousness.

A superb and dense book. Expertly narrated.

This is a book needing you to spend time to read minutely so you enjoy every bit of it. Congrats to the author and narrator

Good read

very great depiction. The turn of events were intriguing all over.
I felt there was too much justification for some plots which leads to agreement with stereotypes.
Too short to judge. Conviction is good.
Non-main characters weren't contributing to the story.

The audiobook is a DNF for me

I haven't finished listening to this book, and I just can't take the narrator's inconsistently weird pronunciation of some words anymore. While she clearly has what it takes to be a narrator, English should probably not be her language of choice.

I love the story so far, and I'm going to finish reading Kunti as a paperback.

not a feminist victim card

I was really blindsided by this work!! I was expecting a feminist rant about how kunti was victimized but I only read about a strong female who was well balanced. Thankfully the author deserves to be an author!! I will now continue with this series knowing it's not some self pity feministic victim.

Too short.

The story is really good excerpts taken from different parts of her life. I feel it could have been better if they were narrated in a sequence.

An interesting monologue of Kunti

Finishing listening to the audio format on Mother's Day is coincidentally beautiful. I liked how Kunti, her prowess and gentle side, is portrayed. People who consider Vyasa Bharatham the ultimate version may despise this book, but everyone's opinions and interpretations of each character in the epic might differ. Hence, the storytelling from everyone's point of view will vary.

Listen to this book to see the novel side of Kunti's story.

wish it was longer

koral dasgupta takes the barebones of the classical text and builds a unique narrative out of it that feels fresh but also fair to the original work. i really admire that kunti is not just a victim in this story but an active vehicle in driving the narrative. I really enjoyed hearing her thoughts and views. which is why I hate the abrupt ending of the novelette. I wish we got to see more of kunti with her children and how she reacts to whatever happens in the future. still a solid read.

A let-down

The narration was very poor, with mispronunciations and boring tone

The story was disappointing. The author is trying too hard to create a new perspective, and the result is not at all interesting
