it was boring at the beginning but the story began to pick up...

"Menaka's Choice" by Kavita Kane delves deep into the often overlooked character from Hindu mythology, Menaka. Known primarily for her beauty and allure, Menaka is a celestial nymph who plays a significant role in the epic narratives. However, Kavita Kane's novel goes beyond the stereotypical portrayal, offering a refreshing perspective on Menaka's life, choices, and struggles.

The novel unfolds with Menaka's birth from the churning of the cosmic ocean and follows her journey as she navigates the complexities of her existence as an apsara. Kane skillfully explores Menaka's relationships, particularly her encounter with Vishwamitra, the powerful sage known for his asceticism. Their unconventional bond challenges societal norms and raises questions about desire, duty, and destiny.

Kane's narrative style is engaging, blending mythology with a contemporary voice that makes the characters and their dilemmas relatable. She provides insights into Menaka's thoughts and emotions, humanizing her in a way that is both poignant and thought-provoking. Through Menaka's struggles with love, motherhood, and her own identity, Kane addresses universal themes that resonate beyond the confines of mythology.

The strength of "Menaka's Choice" lies in Kane's ability to reframe a mythological tale through a feminist lens, giving agency to a character often relegated to the sidelines. She challenges readers to reconsider preconceived notions about women in mythology and invites them to contemplate the complexities of power dynamics and relationships.

Overall, "Menaka's Choice" is a compelling read that combines rich storytelling with profound insights into human nature. It will appeal not only to fans of mythology but also to those interested in exploring the untold stories of powerful women throughout history and legend. Kane's skillful blend of myth and imagination makes this novel a standout addition to the genre of mythological fiction.

Meh!

The narration was great although marred by mispronunciation of certain mythological names and terms ("ashwamegha" instead of "ashwamedha", for example). The writing is alright, nothing great but not bad either.
