About this listen
Based on exclusive and unrestricted access to more than 5,000 pages of personal writings and family photos, this definitive biography of German physician and SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Josef Mengele (1911-1979) probes the personality and motivations of Auschwitz's "Angel of Death". From May 1943 through January 1945, Mengele selected who would be gassed immediately, who would be worked to death, and who would serve as involuntary guinea pigs for his spurious and ghastly human experiments (twins were Mengele's particular obsession). With authority and insight, Mengele examines the entire life of the world's most infamous doctor.

Interesting story about a cruel sociopath
This is an interesting story about one of the worst sociopaths in human history. The cruelty of Mengele, and his family's attempts to cover up all traces of his identity while supporting him are unforgivable. It shows how little justice was ever given to the countless thousands who died at the hands of this monster, and how the modern legal system cannot address group guilt.
The only saving grace is that this insufferable man had a miserable time after the war, and never gained the respect of anyone. All of his work was seen as worthless and he was aware of the futility of his life.
This is another case of how the human condition when faced with its failures cannot admit to being wrong and continues to hide behind improbable excuses.
Thjis is a good book for anyone who wants to understand what happened after WWII.
