Nur ein excellentes Festbankett, zubereitet von Meisterkoch Auguste Didier, konnte den Prince of Wales dazu bewegen, das Opfer der Ehrenpräsidentschaft über diese Zusammenkunft auf sich zu nehmen. Das Festbankett wird ein Erfolg, aber bei der anschließenden Lesung aus "Oliver Twist" sinkt der Vorlesende mitten in der Mordszene tot zu Boden. Vergiftet. War etwa die Vorspeise schuld?
