About this listen

Newlyweds Tricia and Ethan are searching for the house of their dreams. But when they visit the remote manor that once belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who vanished without a trace four years earlier, a violent winter storm traps them at the estate… with no chance of escape until the blizzard comes to an end.

In search of a book to keep her entertained until the snow abates, Tricia happens upon a secret room. One that contains audio transcripts from every single patient Dr. Hale has ever interviewed. As Tricia listens to the cassette tapes, she learns about the terrifying chain of events leading up to Dr. Hale’s mysterious disappearance.

Tricia plays the tapes one by one, late into the night. With each one, another shocking piece of the puzzle falls into place, and Dr. Adrienne Hale’s web of lies slowly unravels. And then Tricia reaches the final cassette. The one that reveals the entire horrifying truth.

The narration was good and it kept me interested

The story is rather predictable than mysterious.
Expected little bit more sensibility.
It ended like everything was too easy

Great one! (not lying!)

Enjoyed listening to this nice work by Freida McFadden! She kept the classic suspense and plot twist for a long part of the story.

The style of swapping "time of scenes" every chapter is also one thing I really love.

Thank you for this

Absolutely unbelievable twist

For almost the most part I thought I knew what was going to happen, until towards the end when the whole story flipped. Amazing book

I quite liked the 'omg' moment!

Tricia and Ethan have just recently been married. Like most couples, they have dreams of living in a space that would appeal to their senses and one look at it, they would know that, that was the place they would call home for the rest of their lives. But...

On a day when the weather forecasts warn of an upcoming snowy night, Ethan ignores the fair warning and convinces his wife that they should drive down to see the place their house agent has arranged for them to see.
The drive is pleasant one and as Tricia gazes out of the window, she fondly reminisces how loving her husband is and how lucky she had been to find him. Ethan is handsome, loving, caring and of course there is so much more to get to know him. A whole life ahead of them.

As they drive along, the weather has turned worse than anticipated and they still haven't found the damn house! Despite Tricia constantly telling Ethan to turn back and come back another day, Ethan is stubborn that they had driven all this way and would it be stupid to give up when they were just round the corner. Finally, they do find the palatial house. It almost resembles a castle! The couple have no other choice but to get inside the house and stay there till the weather clears.
What happens inside the house is almost sometimes stupid and you are thinking how dumb of Tricia to do something and then it turns out to be either innocent, naïve or just …

Who does the house belong to? The house has history - good or bad? Are there secrets to discover? Every one 'sounds' creepy, but are they really so? What mind games are being played? No matter what you do, just Never Lie! You don't know if you can bury your secrets or if the secrets will destroy your life.

This is yet another one of my #comfortablereads. I liked the narrator a lot - pitch perfect, great expression and wonderful reading.
