If you're on the list you're marked for death.
The envelope is unremarkable. There is no return address. It contains a single, folded, sheet of white paper.
The envelope drops through the mail slot like any other piece of post. But for the nine complete strangers who receive it - each of them recognising just one name, their own, on the enclosed list - it will be the most life altering letter they ever receive. It could also be the last, as one by one, they start to meet their end.

Interesting, but a one-time listen (or read)
I am a huge fan of Peter Swanson's work. He has this very special talent of weaving mystery and suspense with the most ordinary or mundane situations or characters, reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock movies. With 9 Lives, he has written an intricate mystery that does its job and delivers on the suspense that it was building towards. However, don't expect a twist in the tale or for that matter any deviations from the direction it sets in the beginning. This story has a planned destination that is established 30 minutes into the plot, and like a ship heading to its final destination it just sails on till the end of its journey, as expected.
