About this listen

One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

In Pride and Prejudice, the Bennet sisters try to find their way in the repressive strictures of 19th-century society. Austen shows the folly of judging by first impressions and the experience of falling in love, and she superbly describes a world which, despite being more than two centuries old, still resonates with modern concerns.

Austen's detailed character study and the minutely describe conversations, thoughts, sceneries is just marvellous. The narration was such that after a while it was easily discernable to say which accent is whose.

Brilliant

With a humour that is so very peculiar to Austen and the perfect balance of equally heart touching and reasonably feminist story, Pride and Prejudice is, in my humble opinion, the best of all of Jane Austen's works. With a narration such as the likes of Rosamund Pike, whom I'll be embarrassed to say I had no attention of prior to my experience of this audiobook, as she perfectly asserts the most prominent civil dominance and head strongness that I'd expect from a character as vivacious as Elizabeth Bennett and her strong narration made the adventure all the more joyous. i spent the whole time listening to this audiobook with meager breaks, I regret nothing of the time spent and I'll be most glad to follow more of Rosamund Pike's narrative works.

Beautifully put together

Rosamund Pike did a great job! (Not only as Jane, but as the narrator as well)

Rosalind Pike is fabulous in her performance of the character roles here and does great justice in bringing to life Jane Austen's delicate acuity.

Outstanding classic narrated by a wonderful talent

This book is a chameleon - it changes every time I read it. The first time I read it at 16, I focused on Darcy and Elizabeth’s exchanges, but at 22, I was struck by Austen’s study of human character and their relationships with themselves, their families, suitors, and society.
Austen brilliantly captures human peculiarity and societal expectations. Her characters, with their personal desires and duties, are deeply human, and their struggles feel familiar, even though they exist in a different era.
This book is a great read, but only as classic women’s fiction. If I don't think of it as a romance, I might even rate it 5 stars.

And Rosamund Pike, my favorite actress, narrates it! Her voice was soothing and entrancing, especially when delivering Mrs. Bennet’s lines. I could still hear her “My dear Mr. Bennet” in my head.

I spent a fortnight in Austen's world, and it was worth every second.

Classic storytelling with phenomenal voice acting

I was able to listen to the audio book in one go just like I was able to read it in one go. Witty, sharp, dry with not a dull page.

An English classic read by an English rose
