About this listen

Technology advances are making tech more...human, changing everything you thought you knew about innovation and strategy.

In their groundbreaking book Human + Machine, Accenture technology leaders Paul Daugherty and H. James Wilson showed how leading organizations use the power of human-machine collaboration to transform their businesses and their bottom lines. Now those companies and other pioneers across industries are reshaping the very nature of innovation.

In Radically Human, Daugherty and Wilson show this profound shift - how artificial intelligence is becoming less artificial and more intelligent. How, instead of data-hungry approaches to AI, innovators are pursuing data-efficient approaches that enable machines to learn as humans do. And how, instead of replacing workers with machines, they are unleashing human expertise to create human-centered AI.

Leading companies use these fresh approaches to the basic building blocks of business - Intelligence, Data, Experience, Architecture, and Strategy (IDEAS) - to transform competition, optimize post-pandemic approaches to work and talent, and show the way toward a sustainable future. With compelling insights and fresh examples from a variety of industries, Radically Human will forever change the way you think about, practice, and win with innovation.

Radically Human is Radically Interesting

Radically Human by Paul Daugherty and H. James Wilson - We have books on AI, Tech, digital transformation etc.…and then we have …Radically Human.

Radically Human is truly radical. It’s a collection of many stories of how technology especially AI is changing our lives. It brings to the forefront, the “human” aspect of AI. Sounds like an oxymoron but – “Emotional AI” is real and it’s going to be more important, which is so beautifully described by Paul and Jim.

In the first 2 phases of evolution, AI moved from “automating” human capabilities to “augmenting” them. We are now in its 3rd phase where we are seeing a “collaboration” between human and AI capabilities. Human and AI interaction moved from Automation to Augmentation to now Collaboration. Paul and Jim have described this via some excellent industry examples from our daily lives, from the food we eat, the cars we drive, the games we play to the vaccines we have taken recently.

We learn in the book how the basic building blocks of innovation – Intelligence, Data, Expertise, Architecture and Strategy (I.D.E.A.S) are turned upside down to enable this collaboration – all explained with real examples.

Radical concepts like - Small & Relevant Data, Data Echoing, Active Learning, Forever Beta, Minimal Viable Idea (MVI), Co-Lab and many others are eloquently described.

The latest “post pandemic” examples like the innovation that went into the Covid-19 vaccine development using the mRNA and how AI was utilized is plain fascinating.

What I personally liked is how the book ends. “Move fast and break things” – was the sick, destructive, arrogant and irresponsible culture of some of the Silicon Valley companies that have caused enough damage in unexpected ways so well described by some of my other favorite authors in their books (Steven Levy, Rojer McNamee).

Radically Human ends with “MOVE FAST AND FIX THINGS”, this is just Brilliant! Radically Human has provided the most positive, constructive and ethical direction to organizations dealing and developing technologies. “MOVE FAST AND FIX THINGS!”
