Publisher's Summary
Two teens must learn the "art of killing" in this Printz Honor-winning book, the first in a chilling new series from Neal Shusterman, author of the New York Times best-selling Unwind Dystology series.
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: Humanity has conquered all those things and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life - and they are commanded to do so in order to keep the size of the population under control.
Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe - a role that neither wants. These teens must master the "art" of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.
Scythe is the first novel of a thrilling new series by National Book Award-winning author Neal Shusterman in which Citra and Rowan learn that a perfect world comes only with a heavy price.

It makes you stop and think.
When I started reading this book, I found myself really captivated with the ideology behind it. Conquering death. Becoming Gods. That really does make one question if this book is merely fiction or a vision of the soon approaching future. This story needs to be applauded for its thought provoking nature, but as a story in general it did not succeed enough.
I'm a avid reader of high fantasy books. And after long years of fantasy novels and intricate plot lines, another story which is not as complex as the ones I've previously read fails to impress me.
The story feels rushed and not adequately seasoned with challenges to either of the protagonists. Being a fast paced plot, it did not focus enough on the charecrer development of either Rowan or Citra. There are a few plot holes and many debatable statements, but overall I feel lucky to have come across this book.
And I would recommend it to everyone.

Unique yet predictable story
The story is not as dark as it initially appears to be. The idea behind it is really unique. There are certain plot loopholes. But overall it's a good book to listen and the narration is top notch.

Predictable
Cliche story and characters. Fun read but nothing spectacular. Not as dark as the title leads you to believe.
