Publisher's Summary

There is a plot to kidnap Queen Victoria and only Sherlock Holmes can stop it...or can he?

Investigating a crime seemingly unconnected to the Royal Family, Holmes & Watson uncover a conspiracy to kidnap Queen Victoria and destabilise the British Empire.

With a ticking clock to her next public engagement, Holmes and Watson must discover who is behind the plot and locate her majesty, while Mycroft tries to keep the monarch’s disappearance a secret from the British people.

At first, Holmes believes Moriarty is responsible for the abduction, but when the Napoleon of Crime is proved innocent, Holmes must work with his arch-nemesis to rescue the Queen.

An audio drama worth savouring

This is more an audio drama than an audio book. The plot twist was unexpected at the climax. Although the plot was streched a bit the narration was a saving grace and absolutely fantastic. I had skipped this a long time ago in favour of another book and wanted to give this a second chance while I had my morning walks and it really grew on me.

So so

It was a bit boring and not so good as regular Sherlock novels. The production and performance was brilliant but the story is too cliched and predictive.

Not your usual Sherlock

Although it uses the same cast as Sherlock Holmes, the overall story dynamics is somewhat altered by the current understanding of the different relationships in the novel. The Holmes-Watson interactions feel more like bickering spouses and Prof. Moriarty at places feels like an interloper. Same can be said about some other dynamics too.
It’s not your classic Sherlock story but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

Dragging in between

The last two chapters were memorable. But the middle (most of the story) could have been edited for the sake of conciseness. Also, a few sound effects were overused.
