About this listen

In the summer of 1994, a workman at the historic mansion of railroad baron James J. Hill in St. Paul, Minnesota, stumbles on a long-hidden wall safe. When experts arrive to open the safe and examine its contents, they make an astonishing discovery. There, inside, is a handwritten manuscript bearing the signature of John H. Watson, MD. The manuscript contains the story of how Sherlock Holmes and Watson traveled to Minnesota to track a murderous arsonist - known only as the Red Demon - who is threatening both Hill and his Great Northern Railway.

Set against the backdrop of the real, devastating Hinckley forest fire of 1894, Sherlock Holmes and the Red Demon is the tense and atmospheric first novel in Larry Millett's classic series of adventures that brought Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to Minnesota.

I could sleep listening to it

the story starts with a bang and creates a lot of expectations. but as it moves ahead, it sort of drags. Holmes's skills don't seem to be used to their fullest and in right direction in the narrative and final discovery of the villain feels far fetched. very well narrated though.. I could sleep to it

Good Book

very fine narration of a sad tale....it's very difficult for a hard-core Sherlock fan to see his/her hero being sad or ending the tale on a low end....good book if listened without expecting it to have the magic like before.... many thanks

Not as good as it could be

I felt it was interesting at first but the rendition of Watson and the banter between Watson and Holmes was too big a departure from the original for me to enjoy it. Watson was too over dramatised and Holmes as well to an extent. The story’s third act left me with a feeling of the whole mystery not being a mystery at all just incompetence on Holmes’ part. At the end, Holmes even tries to justify why he couldn’t figure the Demon out sooner however to no avail. The Ice Palace and this have very similar stories and characters in many ways. And both lack in mostly the same ways. However the ending of the Ice Palace was some what more interesting.
