About this listen

Plummet into a kill-or-be-killed competition where a scrappy underdog hell-bent on revenge must claw his way to the top in this thrilling YA fantasy debut

Exiled to live as a Low, sixteen-year-old Conrad refuses to become heir to his murderous uncle. But Meritocracy is a harsh and unforgiving rule on the floating island of Holmstead, and when his ailing mother is killed by monstrous gorgantauns, Conrad cuts a deal to save the only family he has left. To rescue his sister from his uncle's clutches, Conrad must enter the Selection of the Twelve Trades.

Hunter, the deadliest of all the Trades, gains a fresh recruit with Conrad. Now he must endure vigorous training, manipulative peers, and the Gauntlet—a brutal final test that yields riches and status to whichever skyship crew kills the most gorgantauns. Forced to serve in the lowest of stations and unseen by all, Conrad overhears whispers of rebellion in the dark. Conrad had never known anything existed below the toxic black clouds of the Skylands . . . until now.

Grab your copy of Book One of the Above the Black trilogy today! This action-packed series is reminiscent of Attack on Titan and The Hunger Games—a great pick for fans of Pierce Brown, Scott Westerfeld, and Veronica Roth.

Some of the most epic battles ever

By God, what a rollercoaster this book was. So many twists and turns, and such amazing fight sequences. I listened to this book’s audiobook and the narrator did such a great job that I could separate when the MC was thinking and when he was saying something to someone.

This book is a combination of fantasy and sci-fi, with dystopian elements sprinkled throughout the storyline.

Sky’s End has many tropes, that are tried and tested and are old but what I like is how it is represented to us, it is something new that I read after a long time in a novel format.

The enjoyable was watching Conrad grow out of his father and mother’s shadow. Early on in the book, Conrad would make decisions based on what either his mother or his father thought. But toward the end, he started asking himself what Conrad would do. Now that is a growth I like to see in a character.

Conrad has joined the Hunter trade, one of the twelve and the most dangerous as it is their job to fight Gorgantauns. Now, they went through a training period, which is one of my favorite trope. And they have to go through a gauntlet to prove they are worthy of Hunter. It is kind of similar to what happened in Fourth Wing, but here the gauntlet seemed like a real gauntlet and not some passing thing in a story.

Conrad’s different kind of relationship with many characters was interesting to see and how his view or perspective of them grew. His Hatred toward his Uncle and the unlikely friendship that happens with Pound was great to see. I want them to be friends forever, and with Bryce, it was a great Enemy to Lover example between them. There is not much romance but enough to make us invested in Bryce’s character.

If someone is a gaming fan or has done gaming, they would find the book a lot similar to any one kind of game and that is just amazing, the fight sequence were so detailed and epic, and it’s been some time since last I had read/heard any such epic fight, it took my breath away.
