About this listen

THE INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
From the New York Times bestselling author of Digital Minimalism and one of the world's top productivity experts, a groundbreaking philosophy for creating great work at a sustainable pace.
Hustle culture. Burnout. Quiet quitting. Today we're either sacrificing ourselves on the altar of success or we're rejecting the idea of ambition entirely. But it doesn't have to be all or nothing. There is a way to create meaningful work as part of a balanced life, and it's called 'slow productivity'.
Coined by Cal Newport, the bestselling author of Deep Work and Digital Minimalism, slow productivity is a revolutionary philosophy based on three simple principles:
1. Do fewer things.
2. Work at a natural pace.
3. Obsess over quality.
Examining the stories and habits of ancient and modern scientists, philosophers, artists and scholars who worked in this way, Newport reveals just how transformative the slow productivity approach can be to producing a meaningful body of work.
From managing your energy according to the season, to identifying which projects to pursue and which to set aside, to building a schedule that yields maximum output with minimum stress, this timely and essential book will revolutionise how you work, helping you to accomplish great things at a more humane pace.
'Brilliant and timely' - Oliver Burkeman, author of Four Thousand Weeks

Devour it!!
As usual Cal hits it out of the park. Great examples, woven together with a philosophy which is not only doable but necessary. My limbic brain needed this and highly recommend everyone to read this. Starting my audible reading again 😇😇

Relevant and applicable ideas
We all know the impact of new age workplace on our output and mental health. In this age of rushing into meeting unrealistic goals, Cal Newport has come up with mind healing ideas of productivity. Through the hours of listening to this book, you will encounter various success stories of humans who have achieved more by apparently doing less and slowly. It is highly counter intuitive but its true. The ideas presented can be applied in your day to day life quite seamlessly. The pace of the book is balanced with anecdotes and original ideas alike.

Reasonable
Though the concept and idea is useful the book has lot of stories than practical tips. It is a reasonable read but not great.

Felt like a longer version of his YouTube Podcast
I went into it expecting evidence based & scientific advice but rather it is a careful observation of successes of people mentioned. It felt like a longer version of Cal’s YouTube videos which is fine on its own but because this is published as a book, I was expecting more out of it, Overall, it’s a easy listen. Pick this audiobook for a walk or a run! Glad I chose the Audiobook version. It’s podcast style writing was perfect to breeze through.

A book to read and think after you finish it.
The core principles and examples are very helpful. The book made me think after finishing it, which is not very common.
The ideas and the intent of the book are transformative.
Sometimes the stories are a bit longwinded.

okay at best
the anecdotes could have been more precise and better directed. they seem to be proving a more obvious unrelated point and a subtle more related point

Book of fillers
Cal Newport was and is still my favorite author. However this book is so disappointing in multiple levels. Using his own secret sauce that helped him succeed in his previous books has been overdone here. He seems to be clearly out of ideas trying to say the message over and over again to the point it becomes super cloyed and annoying. He could have conveyed the message in this one perhaps in a couple of pages. But it was excruciatingly painful to sit through this one. Hope he doesn’t repeat this mistake and lose his hard built reputation.
