About this listen

As Wodehouse himself once noted, "Blandings has impostors like other houses have mice." On this particular occasion, there are two imposters, both intent on a dangerous enterprise. Lord Emsworth's secretary, the Efficient Baxter, is on the alert and determined to discover what is afoot - despite the distractions caused by the Honorable Freddie Threepwood's hapless affair of the heart.

Freddie is engaged to marry the daughter of a wealthy American who is a passionate collector of ancient Egyptian relics. When one treasure goes missing and a thousand-pound reward is offered for its return, Blandings becomes a madhouse as friends turn rivals in the scramble to retrieve the object.

Classic.. and the authors note is a lovely treat.

The Authors note set the tone.. at first, it was a slow start getting to know all the characters.. after which is was a beautiful to go through in record time..

2 levels at Blandings

This novel introduces us to some of the Blandings quirks. Not as funny as some of the others novels in the series. A fine example of Wodehouse’s craftsmanship at birthing characters. Over all has a feel good, positive vibe

An interesting book from PGW

I loved the book. The narration did make me lose focus at times but it was still overall a good story, nice performance and happy ending.

Classic Wodehouse

Excellent Performance enhances this humorous Wodehouse caper introducing Blandings Castle and it's eccentric inhabitants.

Good fun

The novel has all the hallmarks of a typical P.G.Woodhouse novel. It’s however not as circuitous as his later series. It’s a great introduction to Blandings Castle cast. Well written and well read. I really appreciated the author’s note at the beginning. One can see his humour as evidenced on his novels even in his commentary like popularity of three name authors. Real fun listen. Would recommend.

series opener

Usual twists that engage the reader, lots of new characters and multiple accents handled very well

Great story average narration

It’s a PGW masterpiece which has given great joy as a book reader. As an audiobook the experience was not very great. The dialogues of female character have been narrated with unnecessary timidity and squeakiness. After a while it sounds irritating. I don’t think there is a need to change the voice as per gender in a narration. It sounds unreal and takes the listeners away from story. Due to this, the experience dampened a bit.
