About this listen
Rule one: Don't look at the demon.
When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else.
Rule two: Don't listen to the demon.
My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is.
Rule three: Don't talk to the demon.
All I had to do was keep my nose out of it. Pretend I didn't find the summoning circle in the basement. Pretend I didn't notice the shadowy being trapped inside it. Pretend I didn't break the rules. But I did, and now it's too late.
Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Spellbound, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen.

Spellbinding!
Taming Demons for Beginners is an absolute gem that blends humor, heart, and a dash of danger in a way that makes it nearly impossible to put down—or in my case, stop listening to. From the very first chapter, Annette Marie’s storytelling pulled me in, and before I knew it, I was up all night, completely engrossed in this magical world.
The audiobook narration is truly outstanding, bringing the characters to life with depth and personality. The narrator perfectly captures the wit, warmth, and subtle emotions woven throughout the story, making it an even more immersive experience. It felt less like I was listening to a book and more like I was right there alongside the characters, navigating the enchanting and often perilous world Marie has so cleverly built.
What really sets this book apart is its balance—there’s a perfect blend of humor, tension, and heart. The protagonist is relatable, resourceful, and just the right amount of quirky, making her an instant favorite. The plot moves at a great pace, with twists and turns that kept me glued to my headphones, eager to know what would happen next.
Annette Marie’s writing is sharp, witty, and filled with vibrant world-building that feels fresh and exciting. Whether you’re into urban fantasy or just love a story with strong characters and clever dialogue, Taming Demons for Beginners is a must-read—or better yet, a must-listen. Just be warned: you might lose sleep over it, too!
