About this listen
In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up.
Twenty-eight days later, the entire Lutz family fled in terror.
This is the spellbinding, best-selling, true story that gripped the nation - the story of a house possessed by evil spirits, haunted by psychic phenomena almost too terrible to describe.
Jay Anson began as a copy boy on the New York Evening Journal in 1937 and later worked in advertising and publicity. With more than 500 documentary scripts for television to his credit, he was associated with Professional Films, Inc. He died in 1980.

Loved it
The narration is immersive and keeps you hooked. As the story moves forward, you can't help but feel for this poor family. What's scary is that it's based on true events.

like a family drama. less horror
Perhaps it is because we have already been exposed to some very well done horror movies, a book from the 70s won't really scare us anymore.
Still, the book is spooky and horror in many places, but only mildly. Ultimately, I was able to go till half the book before I stopped. I might resume and finish it in the future. Ultimately, this is less of a horror story, and more of a family under enormous strain. The hardships of a family, the relationship between husband and wife and children.
a lot of times the horror part is almost a side story. Most of the book is about the struggles of this family, which many middle aged readers, such as myself, can relate to. for real horror, I would recommend Mountain of Madness or any of the alien books.

Love it!
The story is amazing and I loved how he wanted to fight back no matter what... we all are scared but the will to fight is related... knowing and protecting the people your love even at the cost of your own sanity will be hurtful buy also a life turning lesson to anyone who has suffered it. Ed and Lorrain are one of my favorite paranormal investigators or demonologist ever. I always followed their cases and cannot imagine anyone to have such impact on people even after so long those cases have happened.
I am not superstitious but I do believe in energy and this books is so well written it will make you think. and these thoughts will be the first step towards a better experience with these books.

A really horror story
The story is spooky and terrifying. It has all usual trops but it goes beyond usual horror stories. The best part of the story is the setup. The story also try to explore spirits who never walked on earth.
P.S.- The book is capable to give you sleepless nights.

A must for suckers of thrill!
The story, it's narration and the overall arrangement are free from cliched jump scares and done to death events and plot but rather raw and sound natural. A short oral read that i really enjoyed thoroughly. The explanation towards the end is a bonus to people who'd like to examine these ideas on their own.

Quite gripping.
Good start to a Horror genre. Could have delved into the details of the eerie past and that could have been more interesting.

Horrifying if true!
There are some concerns over whether this story is true but irrespectively it makes for a good read. It's a bit troubling but this has made me interested in reading horror genre.
