Man Booker Prize, Fiction, 2000

Even now, at the age of 82, Iris lives in the shadow cast by her younger sister, Laura. Now poor and trying to cope with a failing body, Iris reflects on her far-from-exemplary life, in particular the events surrounding her sister's tragic death.

Absolutely amazing

Loved the book and the narration. It seemed long when I started but after a fee listening sessions, I didn't want the book to end. The narration is great, I was hooked the entire time

Just listen to it, no matter what.

Even though it gets boring, sluggish, confusing and incomprehensible at times, do not quit. You will be thoroughly rewarded for sticking with the ramblings of an 80 year old narrator.

Loved it !

Its a long one, not as fast paced as some would prefer, but give it a shot. I haven't read any of Margaret Atwood's works before. I'm so glad I went for the audiobook, cause the narrator is amazing, plus the story did grow on me. Its a poignant one, the plot is inventive and the characters feel surreal. I have not been into fiction lately, but this one inspired me to get back on the train. Go for it!

Not impressed

I definitely struggled to finish this one. Performance by narrator was great. However, the story did not surprise me. I kinda figured what was coming up... overall narrative was also hard to follow and exhausting to keep up with.
