About this listen

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, 2008.

Things have never been easy for Oscar. A ghetto nerd living with his Dominican family in New Jersey, he's sweet but disastrously overweight. He dreams of becoming the next J R R Tolkien and he keeps falling hopelessly in love. Poor Oscar may never get what he wants, thanks to the Fuku - the curse that has haunted his family for generations.

With dazzling energy and insight Diaz immerses us in the tumultuous lives of Oscar; his runaway sister Lola; their beautiful mother Belicia; and in the family's uproarious journey from the Dominican Republic to the US and back.

Rendered with uncommon warmth and humour, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is a literary triumph that confirms Junot Diaz as one of the most exciting writers of our time.

Perfect audiobook narration

LOVED the performance so much more than the book itself

Yes the tropes are annoying and the girl craze is crazy but the I get the nerdisms and geekery enthusiasm you know?

Woah! What a novel! What an audio performance!

After sampling dozens and dozens of titles on Audible, this is the first audiobook I completed, the first where the writing and the narration are equally mind blowing. Audible should record more titles with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Karen Olivo who I believe are one of the (very) best narrators I have ever listened to. It's a shame they have narrated just this one title on Audible.

And now about this trouble I had with the title (minor but pardonable spoilers ahead):
Some sections (part of Yunior's ongoing narration) in Chapter 16 (the last one in the audiobook) seem to have been replaced by a section (the one about Ybón's pictures from Europe) which I had already listened to in an earlier chapter. Audible should fix this ASAP. I was lucky to have a paperback so I could read the missing sections, still, I had some trouble trying to find my way through the audiobook and the paperback. This is a blunder, Audible, please look into it!
