Publisher's Summary
Bloomsbury presents The Dark Forest by Cixin Liu, read by Daniel York Loh.
Read the award-winning, critically acclaimed, multi-million-copy-selling science-fiction phenomenon – soon to be a Netflix Original Series from the creators of Game of Thrones.
Imagine the universe as a forest, patrolled by numberless and nameless predators. In this forest, stealth is survival – any civilisation that reveals its location is prey.
Earth has. Now the predators are coming.
Crossing light years, the Trisolarians will reach Earth in four centuries' time. But the sophons, their extra-dimensional agents and saboteurs, are already here. Only the individual human mind remains immune to their influence.
This is the motivation for the Wallfacer Project, a last-ditch defence that grants four individuals almost absolute power to design secret strategies, hidden through deceit and misdirection from human and alien alike. Three of the Wallfacers are influential statesmen and scientists, but the fourth is a total unknown.
Luo Ji, an unambitious Chinese astronomer, is baffled by his new status. All he knows is that he's the one Wallfacer that Trisolaris wants dead.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
A thousand years have passed since a dragon has been seen in the world. Science and technology have replaced magic, which has dwindled until it has become little more than an element of myth and legend. There are those who still have dragon blood flowing through their veins, distant descendants of the mighty creatures of old. These rare humans have the power to cast magic, the power to heal, and the power to craft alchemical weapons capable of starting wars...or ending them.

Story
Deep in the African rain forest, near the legendary ruins of the Lost City of Zinj, an expedition of eight American geologists are mysteriously and brutally killed in a matter of minutes. Ten thousand miles away, Karen Ross, the Congo Project Supervisor, watches a gruesome video transmission of the aftermath: a camp destroyed, tents crushed and torn, equipment scattered in the mud alongside dead bodies - all motionless except for one moving image - a grainy, dark, man-shaped blur.

Keeps you hooked up
The three body problem TV show introduced me to this amazing story. It's so much more unconventional than the sci-fi we are used to see. The twist in the plots were captivating enough for me to literally fall down as I was walking while listening to this audio book. Extremely exist for the 3rd book Death's End!

Pure science fiction
Enjoyed thoroughly. Can’t wait to read the 3rd book now. The TV series will have it’s own adaptations of course, but reading the book is definitely worth it for many reasons.

Beautiful storytelling and narration
I started this book because I had loved the Three body problem. Personally, I loved this book even more! Rarely does a second book do justice to the first one. Truly liked the characters, the imaginative settings, the concepts and worlds built. Especially the ethical aspects of each character, the toll that living across centuries does to you mentally and societally. It’s a brave and powerful speculative fiction of an interesting world. Kudos to the writer, the translator and also the narrator for this work.

rich world-building and thought-provoking
the book feels unnecessarily long, with certain sections dragging on, which affects the pacing. Additionally, the ending comes off as abrupt, leaving some plot threads unresolved. Despite these issues, it's a compelling read for those who enjoy hard science fiction and philosophical explorations.
