About this listen
Hundreds of thousands of miles away on the dark side of the moon, the Russian lunar base has self-destructed – all personnel are dead, except one. Olga Sobakin, the lone survivor, seeks refuge at the rival American base.
Olga tells the Americans her base was attacked by a horrifying and nightmarish creature. The pattern was the same – people vanished, leaving nothing behind but shredded clothing and an unidentifiable waste product. The Americans are sceptical of her story at first, but then people begin to disappear ...
Back on Earth, just before the American lunar base goes completely dark, a single message is received – ‘Lifeform’. Intercepted whisperings from Russian intelligence indicate a deadly spreading attack and a rising global threat. Escalated to priority one, there’s only one team up for the task.
Alex Hunter and his elite group of HAWCs are on a rescue mission to the desolate and darkest unknown. Who, or what, awaits them on the dark side?

The dark side of the moon
I am happy that the series has redeemed itself after what I felt was a slight dip in form with the previous Alex Hunter novel.
Greig chooses the finest places for his thrillers and sends Alex to the most exotic destinations. This time he sends him where no man has gone before. Moon habitations and stations have been a favourite of sci- fi writers from time immemorial and this one would have been another one to the list. But injecting a memorable creature into the midst of the moon and literally taking inspiration from The Thing by creating The Thing on the Moon starting from the soviet visitors.
It could have been another run of the mill story but the surprises keep popping up.
Love makes life worth living and is the human thing is something which I took out of this story and what made this story worth reading.
The subtle art of giving which is a part of lobe sacrificed for common good made an indelible mark in my mind.
Conjuring up the monster was another massive enterprise and the process, the set up and the surprise at the end on its genealogy was nice and is a timely reminder of our times and gene splicing.
Acts as a good counterpoint against it.
Great reading. Enjoyed the story.
Off to the next one.
