About this listen
What happens when a young Wall Street investment banker spends a small fortune to have lunch with Warren Buffett? He becomes a real value investor. In this fascinating inside story, Guy Spier details his career from Harvard MBA to hedge fund manager. But the path was not so straightforward. Spier reveals his transformation from a Gordon Gekko wannabe, driven by greed, to a sophisticated investor who enjoys success without selling his soul to the highest bidder. Spier's journey is similar to the thousands that flock to Wall Street every year with their shiny new diplomas, aiming to be King of Wall Street. Yet what Guy realized just in the nick of time was that the King really lived 1,500 miles away in Omaha, Nebraska. Spier determinedly set out to create a new career in his own way. Along the way he learned some powerful lessons which include: why the right mentors and partners are critical to long term success on Wall Street; why a topnotch education can sometimes get in the way of your success; that real learning doesn't begin until you are on your own; and how the best lessons from Warren Buffett have less to do with investing and more to do with being true to yourself. Spier also reveals some of his own winning investment strategies, detailing deals that were winners but also what he learned from deals that went south. Part memoir, part Wall Street advice, and part how-to, Guy Spier takes readers on a ride through Wall Street but more importantly provides those that want to take a different path with the insight, guidance, and inspiration they need to carve out their own definition of success.

Must Read
The author Guy Spiers has remarkably penned down his journey of value investing. Off course being an eulogiser of Buffet and Munger like many other in the world, I could learn more about Buffet Munger and Mohnish’s approach to investing. Also this book enables us to understand how good human beings these people are!! This book emphasises on how important it is to be humble and frugal in the quest of wealth creation..

Bookmarks have severe limitations
I had to add notes manually to bookmarks. wish the audio books have the text version too that would be easy to bookmark and highlight things like important points and checklists in the book.

A straight from the heart story
A wonderful book . The author's travails at first employment is something we have been through and which we could understand at a deeper level. The road to redemption through self introspection and finding a great friend in Monish Pabrai and getting to meet Warren Buffet, the understanding of the finer principles of investing and adopting the knowledge and Wisdom of Atul Gawande and Tony Robbins, from the building of friendships and groups to maintaining a distance from the frenzy of the markets, this book has it all and so nice of the author to share his life experience with readers. A great read for investors and for people who care about authenticity and who care about their inner score card. The narrator is also very pleasing on the ears and has done an expressive reading. Kudos to audible for bringing out a gem for the members.

A book about the mindset of an Investor
I loved the narration, this book is not about the quantitative tricks to investing. It is about the qualitative tricks and the mindset of a investor to be successful in life in general

Intelligence is overrated
Its a must read for all investors - aspiring & accomplished investors, young & old investors, patient & impatient!
Guy Spier writes an honest account of his journey from "intelligent, arrogant & restless" to "wise, humble and joyous". He also gives some idea about the pitfalls that most of us with encounter and ways to avoid them.
