She is known by the stage name Gaza de Lure, an icon of the silver screen - the epitome of success for every aspiring actress who dreams of becoming a star in Hollywood. No longer is she Shannon Burke, the innocent Midwestern girl who moved to California seeking fame and fortune, for in her heart she holds a dark secret...one so dreadful, so shameful, that she can never hope to escape its grasp. When the Penningtons, a wholesome ranching family from the nearby foothills, come into her orbit, will they too become forever trapped in the tangled web of Hollywood corruption, drug peddling, addiction - and murder?

A somber look at 1920's Hollywood exploitation
The Girl from Hollywood is one of Edgar Rice Burroughs's standalone novels, different from his popular Tarzan or John Carter (Barsoom) adventure stories
It explores the story of Shannon Burke, who is now known as Gaza Da Lure, the famous actress. Struggling with cocaine addiction and being exploited by a ruthless Hollywood personality, Shannon tries to escape it by meeting a pleasant countryside family and tries to turn her life around.
It is a good story and Shannon is a compelling character. However, the reason I wasn't enthused with this book is because the countryside family which Shannon meets, they are quite boring and Burroughs mouthpiece for preaching that country life is good and better than city life. Fair enough but not entertaining stuff to listen to.
The audiobook performed by Teri Schnaubelt is quite good and the edition is the Centennial edition published by ERB Inc.
