About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

This is the story of a quest: to find a Theory of Everything. Einstein dedicated his life to seeking this elusive Holy Grail, a single, revolutionary 'god equation' which would tie all the forces in the universe together, yet never found it. Some of the greatest minds in physics took up the search, from Stephen Hawking to Brian Greene. None have yet succeeded.

In The God Equation, renowned theoretical physicist Michio Kaku takes the listener on a mind-bending ride through the twists and turns of this epic journey: a mystery that has fascinated him for most of his life. He guides us through the key debates in modern physics, from Newton's law of gravity via relativity and quantum mechanics to the latest developments in string theory. It is a tale of dazzling breakthroughs and crushing dead ends, illuminated by Kaku's clarity, storytelling flair and infectious enthusiasm.

The object of the quest is now within sight: we are closer than ever to achieving the most ambitious undertaking in the history of science. If successful, the Theory of Everything could simultaneously unlock the deepest mysteries of space and time, and fulfil that most ancient and basic of human desires - to understand the meaning of our lives.

Highly recommended for Physics enthusiasts

Loved the book and narration. The flow of the book, starting from Newtonian mechanics to M theory ensures that you're hooked on till the very last chapter! Many cool anecdotes make it even more enjoyable.

Almost a final word on everything

The grandest ideas are explained in very simple language. I recommend this to anyone interested in finding out why the Universe is the way it is and what is the meaning of all this .

Seeking the ultimate truth

This is an incredible summary of humankind's journey towards the ultimate knowledge which in the language of science can be termed as The Unified field equation. This is a script that continues to be written by generations until the final goal of a theory of everything is crafted.

Not for hobbyist

"The universe has no obligation to make sense to us". But a book (an audio book for me) has an obligation to make sense.

This book made sense till chapter 5, but chapter 6 just made my head spin. So many new terms were introduced in each sentence and the meaning was so dense that my brain literally froze and I forgot everything I understood till chapter 5. It was hard to find a sentence without the word "super symmetry" in it.

I am not a theoretical physicist or a physicist. I just like to read about it because I want to understand the world around us. And the last chapter of this book really undid the influence of first 5 chapters and I am currently struggling to make sense of all the 11 or 10 dimensions.

So, although I have huge respect for the author, but I think this book is more of a record of concepts in string theory rather than a tutorial of it...
