This is the story of a hen named Sprout.

Sun-Mi Hwang, a South Korean novelist, and lecturer, wrote: "The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly." "Leafie, A Hen into the Wild", An animated South Korean adult animation drama film based on this fable, was a great box office smash when it was released. Sun-Mi Hwang has written almost 40 books, and "The Dog Who Dared to Dream" might be the next one to catch your eye.
The story follows Sprout, a hen that lives in a battery cage that is so densely packed that it is difficult to even flap the wings. Sprout's heart aches every morning when the farmer's wife arrives to collect eggs provided by chickens, and then Sprout refuses to lay more eggs, resulting in her being culled. She lives after being tossed down the hole of death with the assistance of a duck named Straggler. When she discovers one of the duck's eggs and decides to brood it, her eyes glitter. Greentop is born considering sprout as his mother when the egg hatches. The rest of the fable is a lovely metaphor for real life, with many emotions, courage, love, strength, sacrifice, family, and so on.
This book suits readers of all ages and has varying levels of hidden life lessons and meaning.
A few quotes I liked from the book is as follows:
"Sometimes a farewell and a greeting happened at the same time."
"That's all there is to it. We look different, so we don't understand each other's inner thoughts, but we cherish each other in our own way. I respect you."
"What if I don't like the rules? What happens then?"
"Just because you're the same kind doesn't mean you're all one happy family."
--Cheers
