About this listen
I cast my eyes over the impressive meal I’ve cooked and the half-empty crystal wine glasses. As our guests smile graciously, I squeeze my husband’s shoulder. It’s vital I get his friends to like me. To believe this version of me. Because I’ll do anything to stop them learning the truth…
Ever since I met my handsome husband Dr Gabe Bonneville, I started playing the role of the perfect housewife. He works hard as a surgeon, so I look after our home, and throw elaborate dinner parties with champagne cocktails for his best friends Hugh and Anita. He’s my safe place and my chance to have the family I’ve always wanted.
I’ve managed to hide the mornings when I wake up and see a face in the shadows. I haven’t told Gabe the truth about the woman who raised me, or told him about the therapy I’ve been getting so my secrets stay hidden in the dark. I haven’t questioned his past so he doesn’t ask about mine. I see the way Anita looks at him sometimes, but I’ll never say a word.
Until the letter arrives at the front door. The beautiful, expensive card shakes in my hand as I read the neat black handwriting.
Someone knows I’m not just a housewife. And the lies I’ve told will be all that’s left when I disappear…

The story
The Housewife’s Secret is book #7 in the Dan Riley Crime Thriller series. My first book by Anna Lou Weatherley. Although it's the 7th book in the series it was easy to read as a standalone book.
A psychological thriller centered around Darci Bonneville, a woman who appears to live the perfect life with her wealthy, successful husband, Dr. Gabe Bonneville a Cardiologist. She hosts lavish dinner parties, maintains an immaculate home, and plays the role of the perfect housewife. However, beneath the surface, Darci is hiding dark secrets from her past, and the facade she’s created begins to crack when she receives an unsettling letter.
The novel delves into Darci’s internal conflict as she struggles to keep her past hidden while trying to maintain her picture-perfect life. She’s been concealing the trauma of her upbringing, her ongoing therapy, and the secrets surrounding the woman who raised her. She also fears the attention of her husband’s friends, particularly Anita, who seems to have her eye on Gabe.
The suspense builds as Darci’s carefully crafted life begins to unravel with the arrival of the mysterious letter. This letter serves as a warning that someone knows the truth, and Darci’s worst fears of her secrets being exposed come closer to reality. As she grapples with the possibility of her past catching up with her, the tension rises, keeping readers hooked.
The mystery gets a notch higher with her being kidnapped. Told in alternating chapters of now and then the story gradually unfolds to who and what was Darci trying to hide, clevery told via interacting version from Darci’s therapy sessions of why she is kidnapped and by whom or if she is even alive, by Dan Riley's investigative proceedings.
I had the who figured out because there were clues but the why was the part that I found was interestingly executed to conclusion. If a little OTT. But tied up well for the liberty taken.
If you enjoy books about complex characters, high-stakes secrets, and gripping tension, this novel will keep you on the edge of your seat. I sure am gonna be adding other books in this series to my TBR.

Poor elongated story
The actual villain becomes evident to common sense after the going through half the story. One goes on through remaining half expecting something not obvious, and yet the remaining half slowly drags you through and points out like a big surprise an obvious ending... Waste of time
