Story
Zafira is the Hunter, disguising herself as a man when she braves the cursed forest of the Arz to feed her people. Nasir is the Prince of Death, assassinating those foolish enough to defy his autocratic father, the sultan. If Zafira was exposed as a girl, all of her achievements would be rejected; if Nasir displayed his compassion, his father would punish him in the most brutal of ways. Both Zafira and Nasir are legends in the kingdom of Arawiya - but neither wants to be.

Story
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

Story
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Publisher's Summary
In the vein of The Time Traveler's Wife and Life After Life, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is New York Times best-selling author V. E. Schwab's genre-defying tour de force.
When Addie La Rue makes a pact with the devil, she trades her soul for immortality. But there's always a price - the devil takes away her place in the world, cursing her to be forgotten by everyone. Addie flees her tiny home town in 18th-century France, beginning a journey that takes her across the world, learning to live a life where no one remembers her and everything she owns is lost and broken. Existing only as a muse, she learns to fall in love anew every single day. Until one day, in a second-hand bookshop in Manhattan, Addie meets someone who remembers her. Suddenly thrust back into a real, normal life, Addie realises she can't escape her fate forever.

this one's for the feels
if you get the subtext, this is a story of a girl who cannot get out of a toxic relationship. But then it isn't just that. It is also about a girl's dreams, wants, and ambitions. It is about her talent for which she is never acknowledged so she donates it to others. She has to content herself with being a muse, when she longs to be an artist. Most importantly, it is a story about a girl who is wired never to give up and she never does.

life and darkness 🖤
Addie Larue asks for freedom and she gets it.
Does a life have any value if it doesn't leave any mark? The story is supposed to be about living a full life while being invisible, unattached - and this feels like a smart and calculated effort to comfort the lonely. And it works!
"This is the problem with a life like Addie's. She has gone so long without roots, she doesn't know how to grow them anymore. So used to loosing things, she isn't sure how to hold them. How to make space in a world the size of herself."

More emphasis on emotions than plot.
Way longer than the story needed to be.
Classic faustian premise, told using immortality as a narrative.
Story could have done more with the premice tho.
Narration was good tho.

The story I'll always remember!
What a year 2020 has been, and I am grateful I decided to end the year with this book. The story warms you like a cup of hot choclate on a cold chilly evening. Addie Larue, is not just a tale of fiction, but is also a poem of love, life and everything we can make of it. Loved every word and the narration by Julia Whelan is enchanting.

A very unique book - worth a listen.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaReux is a book that has me confused. It is equal parts brilliant and too far-fetched in the same breath.
I really admire the author for giving a very realistic portrayal of what life looks like when we try to take the easy way out. Deals with devils and deities are anything but easy and this book shows us that there is no real way to escape what struggles haunt us.
I loved the characterization of Addie and Henry. The story is touching and it's certainly one you will remember for long.
But here is the glaring problem. The author has dropped a few very, very big names - of real artists, writers, musicians, royalty etc. - and shown them in a terrible (and certainly impossible) light. This does reek of disrespect, which I personally didn't appreciate.
Plus, I do feel the book could have been an hour shorter. Chapter 6 could have been cut down significantly. And this did make the narrative sag a bit.
But overall, I do recommend this book. It is a unique portrayal of something many of us wish for everyday - to have our wishes granted, no matter what the price. It is the story of an invisible struggle and an invisible victory. It is the story of Addie LaReux...and it is certainly worth remembering.
Narration by Julia Whelan is SPECTACULAR!
