—————-
How did a piece of gold foil completely change our understanding of atoms?
What part did a hot air balloon play in the discovery of cosmic rays?
How did the experiments in the run-up to the Large Hadron Collider lead to the invention of the World Wide Web?
Asking questions has always been at the heart of physics, our unending quest to understand the Universe and how everything in it behaves. How do we know all that we know about the world today? It’s not simply because we have the maths – it’s because we have done the experiments.
Accelerator physicist Suzie Sheehy introduces us to the creative and curious people who, through a combination of genius, persistence and luck, staged the ground-breaking experiments of the twentieth century. From the serendipitous discovery of X-rays in a German laboratory, to the scientists trying to prove Einstein wrong (and inadvertently proving him right), The Matter of Everything takes us on a journey through the history of experiments that transformed our world.

The Matter of Everything : Exceptionally written and beautifully narrated.
The Matter of Everything by Suzie Sheehy is probably the best most accessible book written about the twelve most important experiments that changed our world.
The book deals with a lot of important scientific discoveries, how they came to be and how they impact our lives minute by minute but the most important lesson I took from this book was that it was only possible because the scientists took daring risks and collaborated with each other from all over the world and didn’t let failures get in the way of their experiments even against great odds.
I thought about writing a detailed review of this book but I’ll refrain myself from doing so as anything I write won’t do justice to the stories and research talked about in this book, it’s best you listen to the full audiobook and maybe also grab a physical copy.

A wonderful science book
A very complex subject is explained in a simple language. It feels like we were listening to a suspense story. This book is a must read for every science student and professional. We don't realise but there is so much of effort, perseverance, dedicated hardwork, collaboration and at times competition put in by the scientists. Thank you Dr. Suzie Sheehy for such a wonderful book
