About this listen

“From exactly midnight until daybreak, the Namiya General Store advice box will be reopening for one night only.” When three delinquents hole up in an abandoned general store after their most recent robbery, to their great surprise, a letter drops through the mail slot in the store’s shutter. This seemingly simple request for advice sets the trio on a journey of discovery as, over the course of a single night, they step into the role of the kindhearted former shopkeeper who devoted his waning years to offering thoughtful counsel to his correspondents. Through the lens of time, they share insight with those seeking guidance, and by morning, none of their lives will ever be the same. By acclaimed author Keigo Higashino, The Miracles of the Namiya General Store is a work that has touched the hearts of readers around the world.

A touching story about empathy and kindness

This is my second book of Keigo Higashino. I was really impressed by his book ' The devotion of suspect X' which is simply one of the best murder mysteries. So when I looked for his other books, this one caught my eye since it seemed not to have anything to do with murder or revenge etc.

This is a touching story about a simple general store which sincerely answers the critical questions asked by strangers about their own life. The question and answers are exchanged in letter form thus affording anonymity to the troubled soul seeking answers.

The setting is intriguing and the execution is near perfect. There are multiple strands of the story which come together nicely towards the conclusion. The questions asked by strangers are quite complex and yet relatable as they are mainly about human relationships. Many of the answers are quite profound.

For the story to take shape, we have to allow few flights of fancy. But it's worth it considering the end result. Highly recommended.

A truly magical narrative

I had no idea what to expect when staring this, and was still not to sure after the first chapter, but suddenly the plot opened up and I was totally captured
A wonderful trip into magical realism. O

Fantasy and thrill

Despite being very distinct from Keigo Higashino's novels, this book delivers an equally enthralling climax. While it may diverge in style or narrative approach, its ability to captivate and thrill rivals that of Higashino's renowned works. A must for fans of suspense and fantasy.

The story line and narration

I absolutely enjoyed the storyline. How the story slowly sews together all the characters. I found that beautiful. There was also an element of fantasy and magic. It is not a thriller or a page turner but the story keeps you hooked. You are looking forward to that letter from the Namiya general store. The story also gives you the opportunity to look at a situation through different perspectives and that was something I enjoyed.

Believe in miracles

I loved the book. We all go through life when we feel we need someone’s advice, even though the answers lie within us. This was like a dream, where it shows that all problems have a solution which we find ourselves.
And no problems, whether our own or others should be taken lightly

Did not meet expectations

The narration is nice.
The story is just okay - stretched in the 2nd half, was a struggle to finish.
